Teena’s Legacy is organizing their 2nd annual 5K Walk For Peace on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Their primary purpose is to raise $10,000 for its Retreat and Summer Apprentice Program for young ladies ages 16-21, which teaches them the trade of reviving, restoring and reupholstering furniture. Under the guidance and spirited leadership of founder Jamika Smith, these young ladies are encouraged to use the power of their inner gifts to create what they want in life. They have learned to create beauty from what they already have, reupholstering furniture and other re-purposed items for sale; and the valuable self-esteem building discussions and workshops they engage in, makes this a worthy model for youth development. I invite you to personally join me in this community event to walk, run, skate, push your walker around the track, sponsor a participant, or simply donate. Each participant and their group of supporters can help us reach our goal early to ensure and secure our Retreat and Summer Apprentice Program.
Teena’s Legacy holds a special place in my heart for a number of reasons. Foremost being, many of the participants are members of the National Block Club University, a movement for communities that I have been involved with for over five years now. I have gotten to see these young ladies up close and personal, over time. The fact that many of them are continuing their personal growth within an awesome program like Teena’s Legacy makes it a greater joy for me to support them in this endeavor.
Join me in supporting our young ladies and help make Teena’s Legacy Retreat and Summer Apprentice Program happen. Donate to their Indiegogo.com campaign- Re-Upholstery With a Purpose – today!
Also invite Teena’s Legacy to talk to your group, and print or request hard copies of the 5K sign-up sheet and other literature, and spread the word. Contact Founder Jamika Smith at 773-678-3638 or Teenaslegacy@gmail.com, and connect with Teena’s Legacy on Facebook.
NOTE: Teena’s Legacy was founded in 2012 by Jamika Smith in honor of her grandmother Alberteen Stredrick (Teena).
